Are Manhattan's blondest socialite and her put-upon husband finally getting unhitched? That's the word we're hearing from multiple pals of the Park Avenue parvenus.

Tinsley Randolph Mercer ("Tinz") and Robert Livingston Mortimer ("Topper") were married in May of 2002 in a smallish ceremony in Florida. (They actually first got married as wee 18-year-olds after graduating from the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, but their parents made them annul the marriage almost immediately.) In spite of her decidedly low-brow upbringing—she's the daughter of a discount "rug merchant"—Tinsley has gone on to become one of the leading "socials" in New York, showing up to parties with her hair done nicely, serving as a "U.S. Beauty Ambassador" for Dior, designing handbags, and, as is the God-given right of all socialites, posing for Radar. On a trip to Japan to promote her handbag line, she drew a crowd of thousands who feverishly chanted her name (leading some wags to dub her "Tins-ree").

As for the more tepid Topper, the great-grandson of Standard Oil man Henry Morgan Tilford, well, no one really knows what he does, other than that he has a marketing job at a hedge fund (one which, presumably, is still in business!) and that he can recite funny lines from Caddyshack on command. Topper has always shunned the publicity his wife has sought out—there are 73 photos of him on society photographer Patrick McMullan's website, compared to 2,433 photos of Tinsley and her golden tresses—a fact which has long prompted commenters on socialite gossip blogs like Park Avenue Peerage to speculate that their marriage is a fragile thing.

Though the couple has previously denied divorce rumors, multiple sources claim they've finally decided to call it quits.. "It's definitely going around," one socialite says of the rumor. "I've heard from her friends that it's happening sooner rather than later."

For what it's worth, the pair was photographed together on both September 10th and September 17th. Neither party could be reached for comment.
