Kathy Hilton Is The H.L. Mencken Of The Information Age

MAYBE SHE SHOULD BE THE NEW ANCHOR FOR MEET THE PRESS Hilton
The big news this weekend—or, you know, "big," given the fact that the news this weekend consisted mostly of specious chatter concerning Barack Obama's "presumption" (do note that that Dana Milbank column which seems to have made the issue worthy of discussion for our easily-lead punditocracy has since had at least one of the needed corrections appended)—was Kathy Hilton's entry into the field of campaign analysis.

Writing in the Huffington Post, Hilton offered the following:

I've been asked again and again for my response to the now infamous McCain celebrity ad. I actually have three responses. It is a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign. It is a complete waste of the country's time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs. And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next President of the United States.
She's referring to McCain's idiotic "Celeb" ad, which juxtaposed images of her daughter Paris and Britney Spears with Obama. Since the Hilton family has donated a ton of money to both McCain and the Republican party, this denunciation probably carries a little more weight than it would if it came from Britney's mom. As another commentator put it, "When even the richest of the Republican Rich argue against John McCain's weird joke of a campaign, you can bet your nonexistent home equity that we're in trouble deep."

Paris herself is staying out of the race, saying only that "I think we need a change." A wise sentiment, one whose taciturnity reveals a hitherto undiscovered knack for punditry amongst the Hilton women. Read the elder Hilton's post again: The woman is a natural blogger. It's five sentences, with three points, written directly and without any extraneous verbiage. All of us in the profession could learn a thing or two from Kathy. Keep posting, Mrs. K, this may be your thing after all!
