"Superb!": The Quotewhoring Patrimony of Ben Lyons

DADDY LIKES Elder Lyons
Ben Lyons, one of the two much-maligned beneficiaries of nepotism chosen to fill the legendary seats of Roger Ebert and the late Gene Siskel (and the other guy, who kind of sucked) on At the Movies, received a rousing defense from his father, noted blurbtart Jeffrey Lyons. The elder Lyons denies that he had any influence in getting his son hired. Young Ben takes a more nuanced view of the whole thing, saying "It has definitely helped to have my dad to open some doors for me. But you have to do the work yourself." This is very true! And we've no doubt that Jeffrey's influence has extended beyond helping his son land a sweet gig; the pair are both masters of the art of lauding any old piece of crap to the high heavens in hopes of getting their names on the ensuing advertisements. Let's take a look some classic Jeffrey Lyons praise prostitution:

My Date with Drew: "Undeniable and infectious!"

Rules of Engagement: "Tense, superbly-directed and a top-drawer drama

The Mummy Returns: "A must-see adventure"

The Legend of Bagger Vance: "Superb. A masterpiece"

Proof of Life: "A top-drawer adventure thriller with superb performances"

Evolution: "Outrageous and Hilarious!"

What's the Worst That Could Happen?: "The worst that could happen is not seeing this film!"

D2: The Mighty Ducks: "Twice as many laughs as the original!"

Galaxy Quest: "The funniest, wittiest comedy of the year"

Bad Santa: "The funniest film of the year"

Almost Famous: "Enormously engaging"

Honeymoon in Vegas: "Screamingly funny!"

Hancock: "Another high stakes adventure!"

Made of Honor: "As creamy a cream puff of a movie as you're going to see"

Babe: Pig in the City: "Even more imaginative than the original!"

Galaxyquest is legitimately awesome. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
