Crumbling Black Infrastructure Destroys White Beaches
Posted on Oct 27, 2008 @ 04:07PM
A bad day for swimming in Southern California! A broken sewage line in Watts has contaminated Long Beach's beaches—shutting down four miles of shore "indefinitely." This is the 31st sewage spill this calendar year. (Um, gross.) This time, 20,000 gallons of raw sewage came downstream straight out of Compton Creek. Truth be told, Watts is now only two-fifths black now—3/5ths Latino—but fully half of families there live beneath the poverty line, whereas Long Beach has about 20 percent of families below the poverty line. Poor not-poor people.
