Barack Obama Aging Before Our Very Eyes

As George W. Bush's favorite philosopher once said, "Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered." And some of those hairs are likely to lose pigment. The New York Daily News takes a look at Barack Obama's pate, upon which observers have begun to notice a definite graying pattern. Is it the nonstop stress of the presidential campaign? Or is it something more sinister? Could it actually be a deliberate attempt on the candidate's part to add a little gravitas through the time-tested method of the aging process? Only his barber knows for sure, and he's not saying anything. Oh, wait, actually he is:

Obama's barber, Zariff, who has been cutting Obama's hair in Chicago for the past 15 years, said he first observed the senator's hair turning gray about two or three years ago.

"It's been gradual. It hasn't been all of a sudden," Zariff said. "It's the norm for his age group."

Zariff said the candidate has never asked him to snip out the flecks of gray, and a campaign aide confirmed Obama has never dyed his hair.

"I don't think he's trying to hide anything. He's proud of the few gray hairs he does have," Zariff said. "When I was coming up, we were told it was a sign of wisdom."

The News also trots out a geriatrician who denies that stress and graying are at all connected. "It has nothing to with anything, except your genetic milieu. Everybody is programmed to get it at some point in life," says Dr. John Burton. Which means that I can no longer blame my own patches of white on the aggravation of running this site; turns out I'm just getting old. Hell, maybe I'll run for president now. How hard could it be?
