< BACK TO Fresh Intelligence The Shorts Suit! It Is Real!
THIS GUY In a shorts suit Which of two places could he possibly work—was it Men's Vogue or Proenza Schouler? Both he and his friend—spotted near New York City's swank Gramercy Park at the leisurely pre-work hour of 9 a.m.—also had their shirt cuffs extended beyond their suit coats, to prove that indeed their suit coat wrist buttons were functional. BUSY! It was a display of sheer un-macho bravado, peacockey and actually even shocking. It made me feel drab and unadventurous, even a little bit old. If I were a young, fun-loving homosexual, would I too be parading the streets dressed like a complete postmodern fop? Good Christ, I hope not. And yet I bet they are having some fun. In China, and other countries, companies are allowing men to wear 'shorts suits' because of the hot temperatures, not because it's a fashion statement. They find that it allows companies to keep the temperatures in offices slightly higher during the summer, thus saving on electricity costs. It's funny how here in the states we'll point and laugh at someone wearing this, while elsewhere it is promoted as energy saving and cost efficient. Posted by: Ackk on July 31, 2008 11:02 AM While I'm not 100% sold on the short suit -- maybe it will grow on me -- I do wish us guys had business appropriate clothing options for the summer months. It really is stupid to be forced into the same suit and tie as the temperature soars. Posted by: DrewBill on July 31, 2008 11:27 AM i'm 0ยบ sold on the short suit and doubt that it will grow on me unless it could suddenly sprout arms and legs. men wearing these, especially in dicey areas, shouldn't marvel if they get assaulted, just for drill. Posted by: sailor on July 31, 2008 12:32 PM I'd have a hard time putting one on myself. I'd feel like I was trying to look like Angus Young of AC/DC. Posted by: Ackk on July 31, 2008 1:33 PM Advertisement Can anyone shed light on what exactly the men are doing in that photo? They seem to be gazing at a slender tree in mutual appreciation. Or, perhaps with concern... Are they male tree nymphs? Phallic symbol worshipers? Tree surgeons? (If the latter, perhaps the real question is: Are they dressed *appropriately* for the job?)
