Duly Noted
Sylvester Stallone, Art House Favorite

Since the late 1960s, New York's Brooklyn Academy of Music has developed a worldwide reputation as a home for the avant-garde. From its groundbreaking theater productions to its championing of minimalist and new wave composers, the performing arts center has been at the forefront of international culture. Its BAM Rose Cinemas have been vital in providing the community with access to the kind of art films which used to require a subway ride to Manhattan.

Tomorrow night they're showing the 1989 classic Tango and Cash, starring Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell.

Yes, yes, it's part of a series chosen by Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green to "shed light on his style and themes." And you know what? Great! If this leads to future programs in which, say, Jason Reitman holds forth on how Turner & Hooch influenced his development as a filmmaker, even better! If you find yourself in Brooklyn tomorrow you should totally stop by. The film is filled with "dazzling slow-mo action set pieces, gratuitous sprays of gunfire, thwarted assassination attempts, and suspenseful chases." And who doesn't need more of that in their life?
