The gaping loophole to the law saying you're not allowed to torment and bully the people you hate has been filled, in Missouri. No longer are you, yes you, forbidden to bully strictly via telephone or lengthy missives written in your most threatening cursive. Missouri, home state of 13-year-old suicide Megan Meier, is leading the way, with Governor Matt Blunt inking a new law Monday that "covers harassment from computers, text messages, and other electronic devices," elsewhere known as cyberbullying. Of course, the woman authorities believe is responsible for Meier's death in 2006, Worst Person on the Internet Lori Drew, is being prosecuted in California, home to Myspace, the site on which Drew conspired against Meier, so there's nothing to indicate the monster of the genre will suffer the consequences of the law she inspired. (UPDATE: A reader's alerted us to the reason Drew won't be punished by Missouri's new law, and apparently it has something to do with "The Constitution," or whatever—namely, that document's ban on ex post facto laws, article 1, section 10.)
