< BACK TO Fresh Intelligence American Wife: Laura Bush Explored
BURNING BUSH Sittenfeld's latest On the gossip front, the novel doesn't disappoint. From discovering that her grandmother is a lesbian, killing her high school crush with her car at age 16 (this incident at least is based in fact—Laura Bush was involved in a fatal car accident at that age), having sex with his brother, getting an abortion, and descriptions of sex with the president, Alice's antics are sure to have tongues chattering from coast to coast. While we want to stress that American Wife is primarily a work of fiction, we know that there are those of you who can't wait until the book's September release to read a description of the George W. Bush character's penis. That and more follow: "Alice" has sex with "Charlie" "Charlie" goes down on "Alice" "Alice" discovers that her grandmother is a lesbian "Dr. Wycomb was dressed in a burgundy silk bathrobe; my grandmother was wearing a beige bra and a beige half-slip trimmed with lace. She was facing Dr. Wycomb, and their mouths were open a little and their eyes were closed, and the kiss went on for several seconds and had not yet stopped when I backed out.... I had to leave the apartment; there was no alternative. "[...] Approaching the nearer vase, I pushed aside the greens and then I vomited—hideously, pungently, gloriously—into the vase's depths." "Alice" has doggy-style sex with the brother of the boy she killed "Alice" gets an abortion "I felt an impulse then to express incomprehension, except that I did comprehend. At night, when I listened to 'Lonesome Town,' I knew. She was right. "'Isn't it—" I hesitated. "'Isn't it illegal?' "'Certainly, and it happens all the time. You can't legislate human nature.' "[...]My grandmother was not permitted in the operating room—when Dr. Wycomb appeared in the white coat. She squeezed my hand, and the warmth of her grip made me realize how cold I was. I wore a blue hospital gown, and when I lay on the operating table, the nurse had me set my feet in metal stirrups. 'The doctor wants to talk to you before we put you under,' the nurse said, and ten or twelve minutes had passed." READ MORE
Looks like the left will be churning out more crap..and a few bufoons will buy it!! Posted by: tomnphoenix1 on July 7, 2008 2:33 PM you have got to be kidding me! and michelle obama is supposedly off limits? where do you find these bottom feeders? Posted by: unoga on July 7, 2008 2:43 PM Complete and utter fiction. This "Charlie" has a dick. Posted by: KarenUhOh on July 7, 2008 3:09 PM I think this is funny. One saying comes to mind...give them enough rope and they'll hang themselves. Is there any wonder with an administration that no one likes - left or right - that the DNC still can't get traction? Well no. Socialism is just a front. They preach IT but practice capitalism. Hypocracy. Elitism. Fatal. Posted by: dirtt on July 7, 2008 3:18 PM Advertisement This is heinous. Heinous. How dare anyone defame and demean a true Texas lady?! How sick, depraved, grasping, and bitter! Disgusting. Just disgusting. The liberals and the BDS loons have redefined crass... Posted by: cherokee1020 on July 7, 2008 3:26 PM This is all about the First Amendment. Let's not follow the gov't down the path of censorship. After all, censorship is becoming America's favorite past-time. The US gov't (and their corporate friends), already detain protesters, ban books like "America Deceived" from Amazon and shut down Ron Paul. Free Speech forever (even for bad books like "American Wife"). Posted by: Reader11722 on July 7, 2008 4:09 PM Absolute TRASH!!! Just another sleazy democrat.... Posted by: sasintexas on July 7, 2008 4:18 PM I've always said that if secular progressive liberals like Curtis Sittenfeld had their way they'd kill conservatives like me. They can't do that, not right now anyway, so they go as far as they can within the law. This country had better wake up, and fast. Posted by: Fireball718 on July 7, 2008 4:29 PM I just wrote Random House to tell them I'd never buy another book from them if they publish this trash. Reader11772 can whine about the First Amendment but that amendment is there to insure that a political opinion different from the government in power can be freely expressed. Free speech is mostly used by jerks to publically air trash. I am free to not buy this book. Interesting to me is that someone has to come up with a fictionalized account to trash Laura Bush. I think one could use proven facts to trash Michelle Obama. Posted by: Xixi on July 7, 2008 4:54 PM I am a 'liberal' Democrat. Regardless, what is written in this book, and purportedly portraying Laura Bush, is totally sickening, without any sound basis, and reflective only of the book author's crassness and moral depravity. I may strongly disagree with President Bush's politics, but also I equally as strongly disagree with the personal slander presented in this book. May the book receive the same fate as OJ Simpson's "If I Did It." Posted by: LiberalDem on July 7, 2008 5:01 PM Trash, I guess books will be going the same way as movies. Posted by: navy65 on July 7, 2008 5:06 PM I'M SHOCKED! Liberals making things up because they don't like the facts? Very shocking..... Posted by: Sigmond on July 7, 2008 5:06 PM LiberalDem... normally we'd be fighting like 2 cats on a fence at 3 a.m but this is one place where we totally agree. It's called "class" and "taste". This kind of so called "fiction" is just libel disguised in another form. As a public person Mrs. Bush has no recourse and now this idiot has trained his venom on her. I don't want to know about the sex lives of public officials. We went through the Lewinsky business and then Spitzer but I wasn't picking up the paper every morning wanting to know who in government is sleeping with who. I don't even care who Bush's dog "Barney" is having sex with. Is there any excess that is too egregious to bring us back to the table of civility. Debate is not speech making or shouting. Tearing down the character of the other guy by using this kind of garbage fiction tears us apart when we need to find common ground to solve real problems. Is there any maturity out there? Or just wiseguys taking potshots wherever they choose without regards to the consequences? Posted by: rightwinger on July 7, 2008 7:19 PM Another Jewish American Princess (Sittenfeld) were all proud of. Too bad she didn't write a book about Bill Clintons sex life. At least she wouldn't have to lie to create some controversy to sell her crap! Posted by: ronaldwilsonreagan on July 7, 2008 10:33 PM I'm guessing none of your sexual experiences outlast the length of your comments. Posted by: KarenUhOh on July 8, 2008 9:04 AM Well, put Karen. My sentiments exactly. And not only does Charlie have a penis, he gives head (to his wife). Pure fiction indeed. Posted by: JCCosta32 on July 8, 2008 12:01 PM To all the knee-jerk anti-free speech rightwingers out there...this is a work of FICTION, fiction, people. As in made up, not true, purely imagined. In fact, NO WHERE in the book or in the information for the book does the author state or imply this book is about or based on Laura Bush. Like most paplum swallowing conservative lemmings, you just naturally take the word of the article written above that this book is based on Laura Bush. Also, the few sentences published on this site are only a fraction of a percent of the 550 pages the entire book entails. Honestly, if you are a mature, reasonable, adult and you can't read a few sexually explicit lines in a work of over 500 pages without getting your panties in a bunch, you need to seriously rethink your life. Grow up and open your mind, for goodness sake. It's not like no one ever had sex before, or that these kind of thoughts never occur to anyone. Even if this FICTIONAL (made up, fanciful) story IS based on the IMAGINED life of Laura Bush, I would think you wingnuts would be pleased to find out the most impotent president in history could at least get it up sexually from time to time! He screwed this country over royally and we didn't even get kissed first...at least Laura gotr a bit of affection first! Posted by: Saggia1 on July 8, 2008 2:03 PM I love the way the righties get so hot and bothered over a ficticious character from a work of fiction -- which they don't have to pick up and read, btw -- and could care less about the real woman's husband -- whom I'm sure she's had SOME influence over -- who is directly responsible for the killing and the suffering of MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people here, in the Middle East and on all parts of this planet. His reach and those of his greedy co-horts has been far and wide. Why don't you guys get your knickers twisted over what is really important? I blame all those who were so incensed with Bad Bill's behavior and Al's 'stiffness' that you failed to look into the Bush Family, Inc -- where he comes from and what he and his friends stand for. America is now OWNED by the corporations (all three branches of government) and they're squeezing us dry -- if you haven't noticed -- and you're at it again griping about this stupid book and what other junk is getting thrown at you to distract you from what you SHOULD be caring about. Posted by: leftwinger on July 8, 2008 5:06 PM .... like SURVIVAL. Posted by: leftwinger on July 8, 2008 5:10 PM This country spends too much time with their noses in other people's business. Dirty laundry isn't intended to be hung out to dry in public! Posted by: politicssuck on July 8, 2008 7:11 PM Well well................isn't this the pot calling the kettle black? Funny how conservatives couldn't get enough of Monica and Bill and dragged it out ad nauseum. I think it's time we hear more about our current whitehouse inhabitants. Hell, it's public knowledge he's a drunken druggie and so are his daughters. Why shouldn't we hear more about the Mrs.? Posted by: Lola on July 8, 2008 7:42 PM This book might be a better use of time and energy: http://www.amazon.com/Prosecution-George-W-Bush-Murder/dp/159315481X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1215561056&sr=1-1 If only..... and funny, it's a best seller that no one is talking about.... Posted by: leftwinger on July 8, 2008 8:03 PM teddy kennedy! tom delay! whitewater! the only truly obscene thing going on here is our current phony republican administration. charlie had his head between her legs because he was looking for WMD's. write anything you want about them. they deserve it. in spades. Posted by: neoconjesus on July 9, 2008 12:01 AM An innocent gets trashed. Again. Posted by: Andy Eppink on July 9, 2008 11:45 AM I am related to the author and while she personally is a nice person, this novel is garbage. I am embarassed that she married a relative of mine. This novel is akin to throwing a sucker punch at someone who cannot defend themself. Utter trash. Posted by: conshero1027 on July 9, 2008 12:07 PM Lola - the book is FICTION. Get a dictionary and look up the meaning of the word if you are confused. Geez. What was written about Hillary and Bill mentioned their names. This book is a sucker punch. What else can you expect from a "flaming liberal" (those are the aithor's own words when she describes her politics) Posted by: conshero1027 on July 9, 2008 12:10 PM Rightwinger- The author is a woman. Unfortunately she married into our family. I am sure I have your sympathy. Her husband (my relative) lost his mind. And his faith which we are all sad and sickened by. Posted by: conshero1027 on July 9, 2008 12:14 PM You certainly have my sympathy. You're a real creep. Posted by: leftwinger on July 9, 2008 4:11 PM To my good friend, Leftwinger- Why are you so hostile? I wasn't even talking to you. Why are you calling me names? You don't even know me. I am a creep because I expressed my opinion? Why thats not very American ;-) I could have pointed out your ridiculous comments that you have posted here, but I didn't. In fact I am VERY HAPPY that you do post comments here. And do you know why? Because every time you do write something ridiculous, uninformative, and ignorant you sign it- LEFTWINGER You represent everything that the left stands for. So please keep posting and signing it Leftwinger. Your words speak volumes! Have a great day!! Posted by: conshero1027 on July 9, 2008 4:51 PM Apparently conshera1027 thinks "liberals" don't know their own minds and have to be told what to think. All I can say is WHATEVER! At 50 and anything but a flaming liberal, I think I know my own mind. Funny, like every other loud mouthed conservative you think those who don't agree with you are ignorant. Notice the CON in conshero. Posted by: Lola on July 10, 2008 8:57 AM What does the left stand for? And why are we hostile? When we see the damage done to this country and this world, when we see thousands upon thousands of innocents blown apart and tortured by our government, when we see so much suffering of our troops fighting over a resource we need and don't bother to conserve or invest in replacing (thank you George) and that a handful of ELITES, or friends of Bush control along w/a handful of shareholders, and when his buddies flock into all the devastated regions of the world to privatize and CONTROL and send the masses into poverty (read a little history or maybe Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine -- the Rise of Disaster Capitalism or just look what's happening in this country, starting w/New Orleans) and when McCain (who will only continue the Bush reign of allowing big business to do whatever they please -- and what they do in the main is NOT 'Christian') already has 1/2 this country believing he will bring change, when people refuse or don't care enough to look under the surface of what is going on and who's running the show and would prefer to get wrapped up in American Idol or get all atwitter over gay marriage or creationism or Laura having sex with George or other garbage issues when we should be reading and thinking deeply about our future, when half of us don't realize or admit or give a shit or are too busy to realize we've been conned, our government could care less about our lives, when we're too busy trying to hold down two jobs and pay our mortgages and medical bills and getting the squeeze from every unregulated company we have to do business with, when our kids can't afford college (and don't think that isn't to the right's advantage) and when we STILL vote Republican -- they prove our point. We are a moronic and brain dead nation and we're going down the drain and we deserve what is happening to us. How can any normal middle-class CHRISTIAN citizen be a Republican? I just don't get it and I never will. And yes I'm angry this is being done to us. (I am not bitter for myself. I've made my million or so and still I'm a leftie.) Posted by: leftwinger on July 11, 2008 4:06 PM PS Not a day goes by I don't hear real life and death stories regarding our deadly health care system. And what have the righties done about this? Zip. They're allowing the useless insurers (big buck donors) suck up close to 30 percent of our health care money. And how many more people just got salmonella because the FDA was gutted because business doesn't want to be regulated? So yeah, let's keep these guys in power. And I'm going to stay bitter until November and keep my fingers crossed that men and women of wisdom and intelligence and knowledge (and not a bunch of corrupted political cronies) will start bringing some sense and honor into how we run this country and interact in the world. Oh -- and the country of Dubai just bought New York Chrysler's building today. Posted by: leftwinger on July 11, 2008 4:31 PM Leftwinger I admire your passion. You seem to be honestly concerned about the future of this country. Let me begin by saying that being conservative doesnt = being republican. I am not a person who is devoted to all the Bush policies. He has made his share of mistakes. Your argument falls in line with every other blind Bush-hater however. And that is why you will never be taken seriously. And as far as the troops are concerned you have drank the left kool-aid on this as well. I have family members in Iraq and the mainstream news will never report the overwhelming good that is being done there. Socialism DOESN'T work. Communism DOESN'T work. Captalism works. And you cannot be that naive to think that Bush can control the price of oil around the world. If you do you are among the blind Bush-haters that would blame Bush if the sun failed to rise in the morning. The energy crisis made headlines back in 1974. 34 years ago! We have had left, center, and right leaning Presidents and Congresses since then that have been unable or unwilling to prevent us from being at the mercy of mideast oil. The left has been instrumental in blocking any measures to drill for oil in the US as well as hampering nuclear power initiatives. There hasn't been a new oil refinery built in the US since the 70's. That wasn't the Bush's. Should we bring back the good ol' days of the Carter era? That was a fun economic time. I bought my first house back then with an FHA loan at 12.5%. So lets not talk about paying mortgages. As for medical problems, if you want socialized medicine, go ask the Canadians how that is working out for them. And if you have indeed made your million you have enjoyed the fruits of Capitalism. You cannot blast it now without the risk of sounding like a hypocrite. You have yours so now you raise your voice against the very vehicle you rode to your success? Big business employs large numbers of people who depend on their jobs for survival. That IS Captalism. Is the solution to penalize successful businesses? Keep them from becoming big business? What is the incentive to a business to prosper? Tax big business and that will lead to less jobs. Explain that to the guy who is working 2 jobs to pay for his mortgage and finds his job is gone. The bottom line Leftwinger is it is NOT the job of the Government to gaurantee the prosperity of all citizens. It is the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of hapiness. Nowhere is there a guarantee of hapiness. That is earned. Not given. You are right to question the price of higher education. Everyone complains about the price of gas but no one asks why the cost of higher education has been escalating out of control. Nor do they question the curriculum and the backgrounds of the Professors that teach our children. One of your most famous Dems of the last 50 years said it a lot better than I can: Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country. I know I have been a little harsh with my response, but the basic difference between left and right is just how far and how much do we want the government involved in our life. One more tidbit before I sign off- The presidency is only one branch of the government (Executive) There are 2 others (Legislative and Judicial) that make up the totality of our government. The Dems have control of the legislative. I haven't seen anything worthwhile come out of Congress either. I live in Illinois and I have nothing nice to say about Barack Obama. He sat in a church for 20 years and said nothing while his Spritual advisor made racist remarks and outrageous accusations against white people. First he said he didnt recall hearing any of that. Then when he realized that just made him sound stupid, he said he did find some of what he said "troubling" OK so now he admits he is a liar. Is that change to believe in? His record in state and federal government is appalling. He has zero foreign policy experience. Illinois is almost dead last in terms of jobs. Cook county in Illinois has sales tax exceeding 10% !! That is Obama's track record. We are also blessed with the highest gas prices in the country. Leftwinger, I agree we need better politicians in Washington. And I am as concerned as you are about the direction of this country. I just disagree with you that Capitalism is bad and socialism is the cure. I believe in the US and its people and our ability to prosper without being dependent on government handouts, increasing taxes, and socialistic policies.
