< BACK TO Fresh Intelligence Accused Rapist Anand Jon's Life is a Bad Stephen King Novel
MODEL BEHAVIOR Anand (center), pretties In this month's Los Angeles magazine, Jon tells writer Sharon Waxman that he is "100 percent innocent," and that he can prove that "every single thing" in the eight volumes of grand jury testimony against him is "a lie." (In a letter he wrote her from jail, Jon says his predicament "feels like a Stephen King novel turned into a movie directed by M. Night Shymalan.") Waxman notes that the testimony against Jon is "damning" in some places, but also extremely weak in other instances. "Anand Jon does not appear to be a nice guy," she says. But "it is not quite clear to me that what Jon has done, in every case, was rape." Clips of the testimony are available online; a sampling from 16-year-old Katie W. from Alabama is of the more "damning" variety: Q: Did he stop? (Jon's lawyer previously rebuffed such an accusation thusly: "My client is 5-foot-4 and 130 pounds. He's a thin Gandhi-type guy. He can't overpower anybody. Any girl would kick his butt. It's not even a close call. That's what's so silly about this.") The trial is set to be the biggest rape case in California history. Is Jon a serial rapist, or just a garden-variety scumbag fond of using lines like, "You have a very comfortable neck, would you like to have sex with me?" We'll find out soon enough. Advertisement |
