Zimbabwe Crisis: South Africa's Half-Hearted Condemnation

South Africa's ruling ANC party, a longtime enabler of Robert Mugabe's tyrannical government in Zimbabwe, issued an almost-stern rebuke of that country's campaign of terror against the opposition, but declined to attend a regional meeting concerning the crisis and warned against "any attempt by outside players to impose regime change." The United States said it would refuse to recognize the outcome of the presidential election on Friday, which Mugabe is now certain to win. As opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai called for negotiations, Mugabe remained defiant.
