• Ringleader: Tom Brokaw will step in and fill Tim Russert's position as host of Meet the Press. Brokaw will begin next week and continue through the November elections.

• Just breathe: Amy Winehouse's father says his daughter has emphysema, an irregular heartbeat, and could soon be in a wheelchair if she doesn't get off the drugs. He asks that Pete Doherty and other druggie pals stay away from her.

• Pantsuit prejudice: New York Times public editor Clark Hoyt says columnist Maureen Dowd "went over the top this election season ... by assailing [Hillary] Clinton in gender-heavy terms in column after column."
