Sometimes It's Hard To Be A Woman

IN HAPPIER TIMES Clinton, Couric
You spend years working hard at your job in hopes of getting the top slot: you put in long hours, you do everything you can to demonstrate your competence and versatility, you make yourself available to the vital decision makers of your industry, and for what? Once you're finally in a position to be an agent of change in your field, you're marginalized and openly mocked by bigoted critics who seem to take an exaggerated amount of joy in your failures, noting each setback in solemn tones that suggest more sorrow than pity when, really, they've been rooting for you to lose all along. And why? Because you're a woman, and no matter what we say, chauvinism is alive and well in this country. You can sort of see why Katie Couric sympathizes with Hillary Clinton.
