Close Friend Full Of Compliments, Requests For Cash
I have a longstanding rule that I try to answer every e-mail. I don't always manage to meet that goal, but at least I open every one that comes through and give it a read. Just now, a buddy of mine dropped me a line, which I thought I'd share with you:
Dear Alex,
You have been such an inspiration to me during this campaign—your commitment and your boundless enthusiasm made everything we accomplished in the last 17 months possible. So as I continue to make sure your voices are heard, I wanted to say a special thank you for all the hard work you did on my behalf.

What's a few dollars between friends? Sure, Hill, I'll help out. Frankly, I am perfectly willing to give you money if you promise to stop e-mailing me. I appreciate all the fulsome praise, but, really? I'm kind of busy right now. See you on the Vineyard next weekend?
