Help The Young

There is much concern about the young today. "I think, if anything," Lilit Marcus, editor of the blog Save the Assistants tells the Observer's Doree Shafrir today, "the books like Devil Wears Prada and Because She Can have made things worse for assistants, because now bosses are less willing to let you work on important things, at least in New York. They're paranoid. They think, 'What could my assistant rat out about me?'" And at the New Republic, Adelle Waldman writes: "When we set up a system that rewards young people so disproportionately for behaving like strivers from the age of 14 on (or whenever they grasp the highly fraught imperative to get into college), it's mean-spirited to then find fault with them for doing so." Oh is it?
