Vet Owns Up to Murder in Iraq, Says It's Common

At the risk of going too earnest, the above video is from the March 15 Iraq Veteran Against the War "Winter Soldier" event modeled after the 1971 Vietnam War gathering of the same name. In it, Iraq vet and machine gunner Jon Michael Turner admits to multiple murders of innocent Iraqis while operating under the command of a bloodthirsty officer. "This is the same individual who had stated that whoever gets their first kill by stabbing them to death will get a four-day pass when we return from Iraq," Turner says. During his tour, he and two other people "took out some individuals" to celebrate a firefight—they had temporarily ditched CBS' war babe Lara Logan, who was with their unit but off with another squad. Turner killed a guy on a bicycle. Iraq Veterans Against the War says Turner has suffered no repercussions for his testimony. Ditto his commander ... and the guy who started the war. Who was that again?

This guy is a piece of shit and or liar. By his confession he should be given the death penalty. I doubt seriously that his actions are common in Iraq. And yes I'm a combat vet so I know what I'm talking about. He is a disgrace to his country and uniform. I hope he doesn't breed. Damn him to hell!

It didn't sound like he was lying to me. His voice was shaking, he sounded pretty genuine. Maybe he truth hurts? If so, he's very brave and he knows he will take a lot of flack for this. Maybe he WILL get the death penalty. Maybe he thinks he deserves it. I sat next to someone on an airplane recently, a soldier on leave from Iraq. He was bragging that he killed a lot of people. I didn't really want to hear about it. But why would someone brag about that? I'll certainly remember his name. I hope NOT to hear that he is involved in war crimes.

No one should be surprised by this testimony. He describes actions that are perfectly aligned with the Bush administration's tone in the run-up to and the execution of this war. Bush had done nothing but spawn terrorists and run up the price of oil and make a fortune for the shadowy companies that took part.
