Academy Award-winner Sydney Pollack, who directed one of the indisputably funniest movies of all time, has passed away at the age of 73. Pollack won his Oscar for directing Out of Africa, but his oeuvre included The Way We Were, Three Days of the Condor, and, um, The Firm, which at least made a bunch of money. Whatever, Tootsie is the kind of movie they teach in film school, and Pollack's appearances as an actor are equally teachable moments. Rest in peace, Sydney. [Variety]
