New York Times editor Bill Keller warned of staff reductions in the coming months, and he'd hoped to provide outgoing staffers with buyouts. But now comes news that layoffs are imminent, and Keller's had to lob the grenade from inside the trenches, where he was filling in for Michiko Kakutani to help out with the Book Review's coverage of a Boris Yeltsin bio.
