Cinton, Obama Teams Heading Toward Make-Up Sex Phase Of Campaign

As the Democratic primary limps to its inevitable conclusion, the grown-ups on both sides of the Clinton/Obama divide have started to realize that the party needs to be unified if it wants to beat John McCain in November, and that Clinton supporters need to make visible efforts in healing the breach if they want access and jobs in a potential Obama administration. How's that working out?

The Washington Post reports on a recent gathering "held at the Ritz-Carlton residence of Jim Johnson and Maxine Isaacs, [which] was a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee at which former Treasury secretary Robert Rubin was honored. But the guests were well aware of the symbolism as they sipped cocktails and admired the views of the Potomac River and the Washington Monument. The event honoring a prominent Clinton supporter was held at the home of an Obama backer and co-hosted by another, former senator Thomas A. Daschle (S.D.)."

While feelings are still brittle, everyone seems to recognize how important it is that both factions coalesce. To that end, there's a delicate dance going on in which Obama supporters try not to gloat while Clinton backers signal their willingness to work hard for Obama. In a sign that the process may be working, the two sides have already shown that they can get together, with both groups agreeing to pretend that Hillary still has a chance of actually winning.
