Cindy, Meet Indy

Why can't ancient Post gossip Cindy Adams make up her mind about whether or not ancient Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford does his own stunts? On Monday, she refuted the notion that Ford did his own work for the Jones sequel, noting that Ford has long employed a stuntman—he's just credited as "second unit director." (Presumably to maintain the illusion that the 68-year-old actor is doing all the leaping out of speeding automobiles or whatever himself.)

In today's column, however, Adams leads with an interview with a man by the name of Anthony De Longis, who evidently served as Ford's bullwhip instructor on the set of Jones. "Harrison does his own whip work. No double," Longis is quoted as saying.

What gives? There are two theories for the about-face. The first: after reading the initial item, someone from Ford's team called Adams to complain, and she issued a "correction" of sorts by running the second, more flattering item. The second: Cindy Adams is so senile she has no idea what she's actually writing on a day-to-day basis.

Reached for comment, Adams' secretary told initially told us that Adams couldn't come to the phone because "she is conducting an interview in the library." When we called back, we were told, "Sorry, she's left the country. I actually have no idea where she's going, but it was outside of the United States." Probably out of shame. Or maybe she just wandered off.
