Yesterday, when the Daily News broke word that embattled former Yankees pitcher and avowed family man Roger Clemens had engaged in a 10-year affair with painkiller-abusing former country crooner Mindy McCready, Clemens immediately denied through his attorney that the relationship was ever sexual. Not so, according to both McCready and her father.

The Daily News gets confirmation from "a tearful but resolute" McCready, who admits that everything published in the story is true but also stresses that while she knew Roger as a teenager, she didn't actually sleep with him until she was an established singer years later.

The Post, playing catch-up, talks to McCready's father, who confirms the affair while noting that the whole ordeal is ultimately good for his daughter, given that she's working on a new album and is "very career-minded right now." At least he's honest! The elder McCready corroborates his daughter's claim that things didn't get physical between the two until after she broke off an engagement with Dean Cain in 1998.

The Post also mentions two other women Clemens supposedly had affairs with while playing playing ball, one of whom he gave rent money to, and the other whom he bought fancy things for while flying her around on his private jet.

So where does this leave Roger, who is currently under investigation for lying about his steroid usage to Congress, and who filed a defamation suit against his former trainer Brian McNamee back in January? Not looking so hot, given that his self-styled status as a loyal, honest husband forms the backbone of both cases. Though we'd be lying if we said we weren't excited for McCready to take the stand in front of roid-raging Debbie Clemens.
