Vogue To Designers: Lose The Fat!

RE-DESIGNING WOMEN Lebron, Gisele
Oh Vogue, our favorite mean girl. The magazine's annual shape issue hits stands next month, with a skinny Gisele and beefy LeBron James gracing the cover for good measure. But of course, it's what's inside that really counts. On page 336, the style rag's editors get straight to the point. Are you a designer longing for the admiration of millions of American shoppers? Then drop and give Anna Wintour 20.

Last fall, apparently, the magazine suggested that Rodarte designers Laura and Kate Mulleavy undergo a four month long makeover. Like the passive aggressive frenemy she is, you see, Vogue was just worried about the husky pair. While the mag has regularly lauded the duo's dresses, we're sure ripples of consternation spread through the office every time one of the Mulleavys ate a carb during a run through. That's just not how they do things at 4 Times Square.

So Laura and Kate dutifully embarked on a strenuous six-day-a-week training regime and ate 1300 calories a day, on Condé Nast's dime, presumably. At the final tally, Kate dropped 30 pounds and Laura 30. Now if only they could keep that beastly fatty Andre Leon Talley in line!
