Here's Barack Obama discussing his grandmother in a radio interview. Asked about his reference to her in his speech on race, the Illinois senator explains that she's certainly not racist, but, as a "typical white person," she has fears that have been bred into her by experience. The line is causing predictable consternation among those on the right, but let's be honest: he's completely correct. All white people are terrified by black people. Obama is probably half-scared of himself. And, "outrage" aside, nobody knows this better than Republicans: it's how they keep getting elected. Thank God we've finally got a presidential candidate who is not afraid to tell us the truth.
