Hillary Doesn't Trust Barack's 3 A.M. Tourney Picks

The reason none of your cubicle mates are working right now? That'd be the start of March Madness, the annual rite of spring that costs employers an estimated $1.7 billion in lost productivity in just over three weeks. This week, the remaining presidential candidates were asked what team they thought would emerge from the fray; their answers are actually pretty indicative of their respective personalities.

Barack Obama, once a decent baller himself, went with UNC, a smart choice in its own right, and also one that'll serve him well in North Carolina's primary on May 6. Hillary Clinton, however, not only missed the chance to take her husband's alma mater, Georgetown, but also curiously neglected to take dark-horse favorite Pitt (she was in Lancaster, PA, when the question was asked). Instead, she said she'd have to defer to her "basketball adviser" husband. A spokesperson for Bill later said, "We're going to pass." It's not that hard, guys. There are 64 teams. Pick one!

Hillary, naturally, has a history of waffling over softball sports-related questions: When asked in a presidential debate back in September who she'd support in a hypothetical World Series match-up between the Yankees and the Cubs, she answered, "Well, I'd probably have to alternate sides." Clinton, who grew up in Chicago, drew ire from New Yorkers in 1999 after laughably claiming, "The fact is, I've always been a Yankees fan."

Republican nominee John McCain, though, is actually running his own pool, in which he picks UNC to beat UConn (he has hometown favorite Arizona bowing out in the second round). Those of you who didn't participate shouldn't feel too bad: In lieu of a cash prize, the entrant who wins McCain's bracket gets an official McCain fleece—precisely the sort of thing a septuagenarian would think a young person would not only want to win, but would wear proudly.
