< BACK TO Fresh Intelligence Radar Didn't Call Will Smith A Scientologist
GOSSIPS JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND Smith (Photo: Getty Images) Here's what we said about Will Smith: "The Church has also set its sights on African Americans, opening up a center in Harlem in 2003 and making a strong play for Hollywood supercouple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith." That's the only reference to Smith in the story. Note how we didn't say Will Smith and his wife are Scientologists. Here's what Will Smith has said about Tom Cruise's efforts to recruit him to Scientology: "I was introduced [to] it by Tom and I'm a student of world religion.... I was raised in a Baptist household, I went to a Catholic school, but the ideas of the Bible are 98 percent the same ideas of Scientology, 98 percent the same ideas of Hinduism and Buddhism." And this: "I've studied Buddhism and Hinduism and I've studied Scientology through Tom. [I]n all of the experiences I've had with Tom [Cruise] and Scientology, like, 98 percent of the principles are identical to the principles of the Bible." Also, Will Smith has donated $20,000 to a Scientology front-group. Does that make him a Scientologist? We don't know! That's why never called him one!
You guys also posted this: ________________________________________________________ ''sources close to Smith earlier told this column that the actor definitely is becoming a member of the religion. "He's been getting more and more involved (in Scientology)," said one source. "And it isn't just him, it's definitely Jada, too." "It's not so much that anyone is upset that Will is becoming a Scientologist," the source added after seeing a copy of the nine-page Radar piece. "It's that as he becomes more involved, you'd think he'd sort of help fly the flag with Tom (Cruise), who seems to only get a bad rap for it, while Will does this and comes through just fine." Nice journalism. Posted by: Typhoon20 on March 18, 2008 4:36 PM @Typhoon20: I think if you read carefully, you'll find that the above quote comes from MSNBC, which is not us. Thanks for reading! Posted by: Balk on March 18, 2008 5:01 PM I understand and respect that. But that didn't stop you guys from posting other quotes from other sources in this article such as foxnews, huffingtonpost and yes, even an MSNBC quote, but strangely the main MSNBC quote with the original post was left out, yet another quote from MSNBC that had nothing to do with the original post was submitted. Don't you guys find that a bit hypocritical and contradictive with that reply ? Just sayin'. Posted by: Typhoon20 on March 18, 2008 5:14 PM I think Will Smith would be wise to start learning Scientology from the official CoS courses instead of from Tom Cruise, like all the Scientologists will recommend you. And then, he can start learning about the Church's crimes through reports and evidence posted on the internet -- let him form a real, educated and unbiased opinion! Posted by: Anoynymause on March 18, 2008 6:51 PM Advertisement If scientology is after he and his wife thay should run like hell! Talk about a criminal enterprise! More info at xenu.net Posted by: Centurian 10 on March 18, 2008 8:00 PM Can't blame Radar for what other sites are saying, and all media should report fact as fact, and rumor as rumor. Unfortunately, the speed of today's media means that often the story is known, but not yet sourced, which has caused rumors to be more frequently included. We're the customers, and we vote with our keyboards these days, which puts pressures on media to speed it up. That said, I hope Will isn't lying (which Scientologists call telling "acceptable truth"). Until I'm 100 percent certain he's not part of that cult, I won't be seeing any of his movies or otherwise supporting him in any way. I'm no Bible-thumper, but the cult of Scientology is insidious evil masquerading behind the sparkling white smiles of corrupt and brainwashed celebrities. When considered in its totality, reading L. Ron Hubbard's mad ramblings, Scientology has no redeeming qualities that aren't to be found amply in other, better places less dangerous to one's health and wallet.
Let Google be your friend, fellow suburban moms. Don't let their relative youth and distinctive culture keep you from joining hands with Anonymous April 12th for Operation Reconnect. There's NOTHING good about Scientology, and all the talk of "religious tolerance" in the world can't make it a religion -- it's "the North Korea of religions." Watch out, Will and Jada. Tom and Katie's insanity is contagious. Posted by: SoccerMom on March 19, 2008 2:50 AM |
