Queeny Chic at Dolce and Gabbana

SCARF FACE D&G in Milan
We thought it was a tad odd when British Vogue named Queen Elizabeth II as one of Britain's most glamorous fashion icons. Sure, it pays to stay on the good side of someone who could probably have you beheaded if she liked, but really? Style icon?
Well, apparently we were wrong. For their fall 2008 D&G collection, Italian design duo Dolce and Gabbana were inspired by royal granny chic. The show, which took place in Milan, featured tartan dresses fit for Balmoral (the Queen's Scottish estate), mumsy cardigans, and frilly, high-necked blouses. Many of the looks were capped off with a demure head scarf—the kind your grandma might wear to keep her curlers in place.
And once again, there was nary a bustier in sight. We're beginning to think we were right about that whole male menopause thing.
