< BACK TO Fresh Intelligence Obama Campaign Dress Code: Flip-flops Welcome!
HIJACKING HOPE Obama (Photo: Getty Images) Lewis said yesterday that the Obama juggernaut signaled a transformational moment in American history "that some of us did not see coming." Unfortunately for Lewis, the vast majority of his Atlanta-area constituents apparently did see it coming when they voted earlier this month in the Georgia primary, including a young civil rights activist who is trying to take his congressional seat. To make up for his flub, Lewis has assured constituents that he will never again use his own powers of discernment in Congress: "The people of the 5th District have spoken. I will never, ever do anything not to be in tune with the voters of the 5th District." Lewis further stated in an interview with NBC yesterday that the decision to flip-flop on a presidential endorsement was much harder than the one that led him to participate in the "Bloody Sunday" civil rights march that resulted in his skull being fractured by Alabama state troopers. You can see Lewis explain why here. Note Andrea Mitchell's inability to fathom how being exposed as a cowardly run-of-the-mill politician is somehow more emotionally taxing than heroically fighting for something you believe in.
