Newsom is renowned for picking the live-wire types: upbeat, never dull, and only on occasion in possession any pesky moral hang ups. In other words, chicks like him. While separated from first wife, attorney Kimberly Guilfoyle, now at Fox News in New York, Newsom had an affair with staffer Ruby Rippey-Tourk, the hard-partying sexpot wife of his top aide and close friend Alex Tourk. On the heels of that scandal, which sent Tourk off to rehab and had Newsom swearing off booze (though it's widely rumored he still drinks), he started dating CSI: Miami star Sofia Milos. Afterward, he briefly dated 20-year-old model Brittanie Mountz (yes, that is her real name), and caught guff for squiring her to cocktail parties and events around town.
So it may surprise some to meet flaxen-haired actress Jennifer Siebel, a former downhill ski racer and soccer player once recruited by Stanford (Kappa Kappa Gamma!), who includes pilates among her many dances. (Pilates is a dance? Strange. Anyway.)
This well-heeled Newsom prey from Marin County is so much more than your average socialite/actress of the artsie and do-gooder variety. Her parents are big Bay Area donors and most accounts of the Newsom/Siebel introduction cite shared common interests in politics, college sports, the wine business, and Africa. (Siebel says she was once chased in Botswana by a crocodile, a lion, and an elephant! Though presumably not at the same time.)
Though Siebel's got a lengthy résumé of television and commercial credits, she is most widely known for pitching Mazdas and WaWa convenience stores and a bit part in 2007's In the Valley of Elah, an Iraq war drama costarring Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron. Hollywood, she says, is clearly where she wants to be. In her bio, she offers up a think piece on her decision to move to Los Angeles, and how Hollywood runs our lives. Variety take note!
"Hollywood has a voice. It has a very powerful voice. Is it the smartest, most informed, purest voice? Certainly not. But its voice resonates throughout the world through modern technology and global distribution systems. It affects and influences our mindsets and actions every day. If one can't beat it, why not infiltrate it. It's just another means to an end." Great! But, um, where might the two live? Gavin's still mayor, after all.
But we're sure she's thought about these things. And who knows, maybe she is talented. Anyone who lists Pilates as a dance has a kind of special, high-minded thinking. At the very least, let's applaud her graciously liberal views on doing full-frontal nudity. "I think it's beautiful," she once told a reporter. "I think it's cool and it is Art."
We think it's Art, too.
