New Year's Resolutions We'd Never Thought We'd Hear: According to an interview in the Financial Times (via Wonkette), hard-drinking, God-hating, body-waxing Trotskyite Christopher Hitchens has done the unthinkable and given up smoking.

The "Hitchens lights up a smoke and says X" anecdote is a requisite in nearly every profile written about the guy (including ours); he has also vehemently argued against legislation intended to curtail smoking in bars. Which makes his admission that "I got up yesterday morning in Madison, Wisconsin, and I just threw my pack away" all the more shocking. Hitch, we hardly knew ya!
