Last March, a month after the brutally mutilated body of New York City college student Imette St. Guillen was found bound and gagged in Queens, police hauled in bouncer and ex-convict Darryl Littlejohn and charged him with first-degree murder. Now Radar has learned that Littlejohn was actually an informant for both the Nassau County District Attorney and the federal government at the time of the killing.

According to a contract obtained by Ethan Brown, author of the forthcoming Snitch (PublicAffairs), Littlejohn inked an agreement with the Nassau County DA in 1997 after being indicted on armed robbery charges. In 1998, federal court testimony he provided against members of '80s drug kingpin Lorenzo "Fat Cat" Nichols's crew led to several convictions, despite the fact that Littlejohn lied in court about actually being a member of Fat Cat's crew. ("Fatty doesn't even know who this guy [Littlejohn] is," one member of Nichols' crew told Brown).

The 42-year-old Littlejohn, a career criminal who has been in and out of prison since high school, was working as a bouncer at Manhattan bar The Falls the night he met St. Guillen. She was last seen arguing with Littlejohn outside the bar. According to police, Littlejohn tortured, mutilated, and raped her before dumping her bound and gagged body off of the Beltway Parkway in Queens. The killing sparked a crackdown on New York City nightlife. Perhaps it should have also caused the government to reassess why type of person it awards with informant agreements.

Littlejohn is currently awaiting trial in Rikers Island.
