< BACK TO Fresh Intelligence Capitol Hill's Scandal Map
• The RNC Headquarters: Former Bush lackey Karl Rove sent out private e-mails from an rnchq.com address to avoiding using his official government account. When Democrats in Congress tried to subpoena them, they were told the server "lost" them. • Hill House Apartments, #215: Cynthia Ore, a lover of former Republican congressman Donald Sherwood, placed a 911 call to police from the bathroom here, claiming that Sherwood choked her. Says Sherwood: I was simply giving her a backrub! No charges were ever filed. • Mark Foley's Townhouse: The quaint yellow building where the boy-lovin' former Republican congressman allegedly took Capitol Hill pages for sex. Also where Foley (screen name: Maf54) sent out instant messages to underage boys like this: "did you spank it this weekend yourself?" • 132 D St: The location of the "safe house" from which former Republican House majority leader and Jack Abramoff accomplice Tom Delay set up his lobbying practice and made fundraising calls. • Washington Marina: The docking station of former Republican congressman Randy Harold Cunningham's yacht, "The Duke-stir." Cunningham got the 42-foot vessel in exchange for awarding $16 million in military contracts to friends of his. • The Dubliner: The favorite watering hole of former Republican congressman (are you sensing a theme here yet?) Bob Ney, who resigned after pleading guilty to conspiracy for his role in the Jack Abramoff scandal. Ney leveraged his position to grant favors to Abramoff lobbyists in return for such gifts as Super Bowl tickets. On a side note, it was also Ney who insisted that french fries be renamed "Freedom Fries" to protest France's lack of support for the Iraq invasion in 2003. • 1315 F Street: The Washington home of congressman William Jefferson (aberration alert: Jefferson is not only a Democrat, but is black.) In 2005, the FBI raided Jefferson's home and found $90,000 in cash wrapped in his freezer disguised as leftovers. Jefferson, who still managed to win re-election last year, has since been indicted and is now the subject of a corruption probe. (Nearby, but not on the list: the Union Station bathroom that sitting Idaho Senator Larry Craig allegedly trolls for gay sex). Advertisement |
