Can K-Fed Seize the Spotlight?

When Britney Spears and Kevin Federline divorced nearly one year ago, the world rejoiced in unanimity: Finally Britney was free from her Olde English-swilling, wannabe-rapper hubby. But then Spears fell. Hard. Her descent into depravity culminated last week when custody of her two sons was transferred from her own Cheeto-stained hands to Kevin's. In an instant, Kevin became the sensible one. Suddenly, the man who once came in sixth in a Worst Celebrity Dads contest was the mature, responsible parent.

But will it last? Fed-Ex's lower profile over the past few months may have helped the judge see him as a positive alternative to Brit's tooth-whitening-on-a-toddler parental techniques. The key is to maintain. In an effort to ensure that Kevin holds on to at least two of his four kids (the others live with baby mamma Shar Jackson), Radar consulted PR powerhouse Howard Bragman of 15 Minutes PR and Paris Hilton's flack Elliot Mintz to help him through.

K-Fed, you're in the PR/ER!

Stay home
Bragman: "You don't see him in the tabloids or on the blogs acting out of his mind. And he hasn't done that many public appearances, which is smart. He's doing the Ronald Reagan strategy, which is a lot of photo ops of him and kids in the parks. He's been very, very judicious about his PR and about his appearances. Doesn't Britney ever spend any time at home watching TV?"

Make Fun of Yourself
Bragman: "He came out of the box at the Super Bowl, and he made fun of himself. That was a very smart thing to do. And very lucrative. When I worked with Monica Lewinsky I put her on SNL to show she could laugh at herself. It takes some of the sting away."

Let Britney be Britney
Bragman: "You don't need to do much when your adversary is digging her own hole. It's a lot more interesting and a lot safer to watch them do themselves in. He is advancing his profile because every time the press talks about Britney they talk about Kevin. As long as he doesn't lose any ground, he's winning, because she's losing ground everyday."

Lend a Helping Hand
Mintz: "Although the public relations component is always a factor in these matters, it is far from primary. The two issues that require focus are the children and Brit's personal safety. When and if Britney finds the power to triumph over her personal issues, I am hopeful the court will feel the children are better off being raised by both parents. What is best for the children will be best for the parents. Both of them can emerge in a caring and responsible way. There is strength in unity."
