< BACK TO Fresh Intelligence Fake Bomber Has an MIT Web Page
She continues, "I'm currently studying computers and how they work at MIT. I play at a student-run machine shop called MITERS. Before that, I lived for a long time in Hawaii, while traveling the world and saving the planet from evil villains with my delivered-just-in-time gadgets." Someone's been watching too much Real Genius. Other highlights from her online résumé: • MIT Media Lab, Personal Robots Group Spring 2007 • MIT Media Lab, Tangible Media Group, Fall 2006
If the Boston police would have shot this stupid girl, the world would be a smarter place. I bet her parents are terribly proud that their daughter caused a terror scare at a major national airport that was once the starting point of America's worst attack. How brilliant of her! How creative! Posted by: Jeffin90019 on September 21, 2007 1:17 PM What was she thinking? Doesn't she remember that people in Boston HATE blinking LEDs? http://www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2007/01/aqua_teen_hunge_1.html They cause seizures. Posted by: john jay on September 21, 2007 1:38 PM Im shocked and disgusted by what this girl did. Is the future of the US in the hands of people like this? Attending MIT? I can imagine they (MIT) are just thrilled with this kind of publicity. I cannot believe she would be so deficient in common sense and social tactfulness. This kind of thing should be punished severely. Its the equivalent of yellimg "bomb" in a crowded theater. I, for one, would have loved to see this person, at the very least, be the recipient of a gunshot wound to the leg just to teach her that what she did is serious business. Its not "art" as she says it is....its a complete mockery of some of the more serious issues of living in today's world. Just in case the brilliant 19 year old herself is reading this....think about this; how much stress and inconvenience do you think you caused the people around you when you pulled this idiotic stunt? You should be ashamed of yourself. You may think you're going to be a future genius, but listen "little miss smarty pants", youve got an incredible amount of growing up to do. Oh and by the way...did you ever think about the long term consequences of this incident may have on your future career aspirations? My guess is you didn't....I know alot of companies who would love to work with someone who has been arrested and charged with a crime.....good thinking! Posted by: tylergates on September 21, 2007 1:41 PM Yeah, I agree with the above commenters! THEY SHOULD HAVE SHOT HER! my god, i can't wait until Christmas time... when SWAT teams surround every house because of the blinking Christmas lights... Posted by: kogeliz on September 21, 2007 2:05 PM Advertisement Oh Noooos! It's not an American Flag, so it MUST BE A BOMB! Morons. Flashing LED jewelry is butt-ugly but it's not exactly new. It does not make me feel any safer, knowing that this is the level of competence Posted by: Kevvin7 on September 21, 2007 2:34 PM This is a freakin' joke. Complete overreaction by the City of Boston, again! These are the same people who shut down the city over lite brites (the whole Aqua Teen Hunger Force guerrilla marketing scheme that was blown out of proportion in Boston months ago. Every other major city in the US had those lite-brite type advertisements, but because they actually pay attention to the TV shows their teenagers watch, they knew what the freakin' things were.) This poor girl was held at gun point because she had a clever shirt on. It was a computer circuit board on the front, with text on the back that said "Sock it to me". She was playing with Play-doh for Christ's sake. Because this innocent girl wore a shirt that your average, computer-ignorant person wouldn't get, she now faces possible prison time! It wasn't a fake bomb, it was a freakin' computer circuit board. People are so scared of things that they are ignorant of, it's ridiculous. Yes, she probably practiced poor judgment in wearing that shirt to an airport, but you know what, the thought probably never crossed her mind that it would be seen as a bomb. To computer savvy people like her and I, a simple computer circuit board is completely innocent and non-threatening. Are we saying that there are different laws and freedoms, simply because you are near or in an airport? This is just another case of people in law enforcement overreacting. I understand they have a job to do, and maybe their initial reaction to secure the scene and make sure there was no threat was right. However, once they had the girl in custody, and realized they were the ones making a mistake, she should have been released with an apology, not put in jail, facing charges with up to five years in prison. This bright and intelligent girl (a freakin' MIT student, she obviously is doing something right), who may just be a little different than the "norm". But now due to a simple misunderstanding and blatant overreaction, she now faces a bleak future. Total bullshit. Posted by: smegginhell on September 21, 2007 2:41 PM This poor confused twit must be unaware that six years ago flight crews working out of BOS/Logan went out that am and never saw their loved ones again. Posted by: icepick on September 21, 2007 2:49 PM If you drive in Boston, don't use your turn signal since the local cops think anything that blinks is a bomb!! Posted by: datso on September 21, 2007 3:14 PM She mite be a radical subversive, she mite be an idiot. In either case, too bad she was not shot if nothing else to show that security is not a laughing matter or something to be used as a publicity stunt. Posted by: w8less on September 21, 2007 3:22 PM nice icepick, let's punish the smart athletic successful college student, she is not demonstrating proper American values those who have died honorably fighting for this country and those who had no choice would roll in their graves to hear you cowardly use their lives as an excuse to give up the very freedoms that make this country truly Great. Yes, honor the dead and respect their relatives but dont forget what they stood for and show some backbone. Sheepish cowering from all sources of risk is not the heritage of this country. Bravely living our freedom and pursuing our happiness right in the face of those who would destroy our way of life is the BEST way to fight back. Posted by: greggler on September 21, 2007 3:30 PM to smegginhell, Kevvin7 and it appears you may tell the difference between playdoe and plastic explosive when most people including law enforcement cant... what is your secret? The real motivation of this looser was given to her by the vast amount of anti-american faculty at MIT, ie Noam Chomsky. This is the state of America's university system now. Too bad she will be a hero there rather then the subject of a memorial. Posted by: w8less on September 21, 2007 3:37 PM I didn't say anything about being able to tell it was play-doh. They found out afterwards that's what it was. However, if I saw a girl with a clever shirt on playing with a ball of what looked like putty, my first reaction would not be "oh my god it's a terrorist, she has a bomb. Obviously that is plastic explosive in her hand, she's here to kill us all!". Like I said, the police did what they were trained to do. It's probably the dumb cunt that called the police in the first place that overreacted. However, once they realized this girl posed no threat, they should have let her go! It's ridiculous to file charges against her. It's like the police felt kinda stupid for their reaction, pointing automatic weapons at an innocent young student. You know that reaction some people have when they're made to look stupid-they get angry and want to make the people who made them feel stupid pay. That's what's going on here. They're pissed off at her, so they're gonna file "fake bomb" charges and try to fuck with her. At least it sounds like she got a reasonable judge, and hopefully the charges will be lessened or dropped. The worse she deserves is probation and community service, not prison time, or as some of the fucking idiots on here have said "a bullet in the head". Fuck those guys, you're a disgrace as an American if you actually believe this girl deserved a fucking bullet. Posted by: smegginhell on September 21, 2007 3:55 PM Hllo w8less. You can tell it's play doh because it is blue and smells like play doh. I know you're scared. And I sympathize with you and understand how hard it must Guaranteed, if you go to an airport where they actually *have* terrorists actively attempting to blow things up, TLV for example, where the police have an ounce Posted by: Kevvin7 on September 21, 2007 3:56 PM Really, to all of you who dread the idea of people like her being "the future," and talk about how much of an idiot she is, seriously, are you people retarded? You can't spell for shit, looser is an adjective, loser is what you were going for, and barely any of you can string a coherant, legible thought/sentence together. She goes to MIT for fuck's sake, I'm sure her fingernails are smarter than some of you people. She should have thought this through, absolutely, but how many 19 year-olds think anything through? I think like our two hippie/trustafarians repsonsible for the Mooninites scandal a while back, she probably didn't mean anything malicious by it. And to those who wish they had shot her: I probably see slack-jawed cro-mag idiots like you while I'm out somewhere and think the same thing. Posted by: Meg_Ohhhh on September 21, 2007 3:56 PM It's a sad state of affairs when arrogant stupidity is seen as artistic expressionism. At the least, this young lady displayed all of the intellect and empathy of a lima bean. At the worst, it was an intentional attempt to promote a reaction that could well have ended in tragedy. If this turned out to be a one time only event, I could see cutting her a certain amount of slack. But, considering the small but vocal group of people that admire her actions (and seem to want to see more of such), I can only hope they proceed to make an example of her. This form of behavior must not be allowed to become a fad. Posted by: Amortz on September 21, 2007 5:20 PM What a fk-tard! This isn't ANYTHING like the brites incident. This is hardly clever, as to the crappy execution of her design skills. Posted by: vallen on September 21, 2007 5:21 PM By the way, when running down people for their grammar and spelling, I would suggest that you spellcheck your own work first. Not a pretty sight. :) Posted by: Amortz on September 21, 2007 5:34 PM Here is your "fake bomb" that warranted automatic weapons and felony charges: What a joke... Posted by: smegginhell on September 21, 2007 5:45 PM Okay, they don't seem to like links to pictures on this site... look for the update version of this report on here and see the picutre of the shirt see was wearing.... the circuit board is tiny, with a 9v battery hanging off the side and a small light.... Yeah, if I saw that I'd be terrified! http://boingboing.net/images/cfa4827569_20070921device3.jpg Posted by: smegginhell on September 21, 2007 5:48 PM oh wow, i cant believe that this has turned into an MIT bashing incident. what do you want to bet that the sum total of all MIT's brilliant advances and resulting increased boost to our economy from commercialization of said advances exceed the contributions of the entire family tree of w8less dating back to 1776 Posted by: greggler on September 21, 2007 6:57 PM Boston cops let arabs with knives board planes and kill 3000 people. MIT students with blinking light toys get gunned down. You made your point gal! Anyhoo, She should pay the bail in Smoots ;-) Posted by: divbis0 on September 21, 2007 7:22 PM What made anyone think she's a terrorist? It's not like she had an Irish surname or something. Anyone with half a brain can see that's just a breadboard with some leds on it. Whoever imagined it was a bomb should go clean latrines. In fact, the guts of a computer look much the same only more complicated. So, if she'd wrapped it in a laptop case, power-dressed, wiggled and flirted a bit, the cops would have been all smiles and waved her through. She's smart and creative and she'll be a millionaire in silicon valley in a few years. Posted by: mrwhoohoo on September 22, 2007 1:36 PM Meg__Ohhh - Just maybe it's time for people her age start thinking things thru and taking responsibilty for their actions! She's not just a loser, she'd a MORON and how thrilled her parents must be. MIT means absolutely NOTHING when MIT and the parents can't even teach this moron (and many others) COMMON SENSE. As for you, get off your throne because you are a nothing in the grand scope of things. So please wrap that tin foil a little tigher will you! Yeah, if I saw that I'd be terrified!" Yeah that sounds ridiculous. Pffft... that doesn't sound dangerous at all. But then again neither does a guy trying to light up his sneaker on an airplane.
