< BACK TO Fresh Intelligence The Cost of Covering Lohan![]() CO-PAY Lindsay The Chicago Sun Times reports that Ron Hickman, the producer of Lindsay's next film, Poor Things, stands behind the project but has not mentioned the actress when speaking to the press. This sort of treatment has led to wild speculation that the actress will be replaced by someone less costly in future projects. To get to the bottom of it all, Radar called Wendy Diaz, the entertainment underwriting director for Fireman's Fund, one of the largest film insurance companies in Hollywood. What we discovered is that Lindsay's partying ways might be a liability to studios, but it will be more costly for the actress herself. "The actual cost to insure her might not go up," says Diaz, "but based on the actress's medical history and current condition, the terms are going to change, and she will be responsible for a lot more of the claims. To do a movie, she will be held accountable for a lot more money. It can be done, but there will be many more restrictions around using her." She goes on to predict that it's Lohan's criminal record that may keep her out of work. "We cover cast members who get sick, injured, or die. If an actor is incarcerated, that isn't covered, so the studio loses money and cannot reclaim it." A complicated "completion bond" against her for throwing the movie's time and budget off will be a studio's only recourse, she says. "I've been doing this for 20 years, and the majority of the artists we see are not problematic. But some are, and that can put limits on any production." Is Lindsay worth the hassle to insure? It seems that her future rests on her willingness to reach deep into her own pockets when it comes to taking roles. In Hollywood, they make you pay for your mistakes ... literally. Advertisement |
