Apply Now to be Wyoming's Next Senator

Are you a Republican? Do you own a condo in Jackson Hole? If you answered yes to both these questions, then the Republican Party of Wyoming wants you to represent the Equality State in the United States Senate.

The death last week of Senate fixture Craig Thomas left the Wyoming GOP scrambling to find candidates to present to Governor Dave Freudenthal. After much soul-searching, it appears they feel the fairest way to find a new representative is to open the process up to every Wyomian (or perhaps Wyomite) with access to the Internet, as evidenced by a job application posted on the Wyoming GOP website.

"Our goal is simple," says state GOP chairman Fred Parady, "to put forward the three very best possible candidates for the office of the senator."

[Full job application after the jump!]

While the job certainly sounds glamorous, the applicant will be forced to engage in the bare-knuckles warfare that is Wyoming politics as early as 2008, when a special election will be held to determine a permanent replacement for the late senator.

But the clock is ticking for would-be candidates: The final day to apply is Thursday, June 14, at 5 p.m. MST. To aid in the application process, we present a few ideas for completing the "Priorities As United States Senator" section:

• Chopping down the Cheyenne political machine
• Lassoing illegal aliens
• Challenging Chuck Schumer to a gunfight at dawn
• Encouraging President Bush to consider a controversial "Ten-Gallon Hats for Oil" program
• Appoint a horse to lead the NRCC
• Make every state's borders connect to form right-angles
