Kate Moss: A Zero and Proud of It

kmoss_050907_FRESH.jpg
AMERICA'S TOPSHOP MODEL Moss

Where: Barney's, 7th Floor
Who: Models, slaves to fashion, super interns, gays
Why: Because Kate Moss's "discount" collection is only a few hundred dollars stateside
Refreshments: Veuve, Veuve, Veuve
Swag: Cardboard Kate Moss masks (required that guests punch out nostril holes themselves—scanned image after the jump!)

Last night's private launch party for Kate Moss's Top Shop line at Barney's was everything a fashion industry party should be. Held in a lavish department store filled with praetorian cater-waiters passing out esoteric crudités, quail eggs, and goose liver puffs, it showcased self-important boldfacers and chattering fashionistas in architectural tutus and excessive sequins.

The superwaif of the evening held court and chain-swigged champagne in the center of a crowd of paparazzi and well-heeled socialites with their digicams out, all vying for a souvenir snapshot. Though Moss seemed fairly uninterested in talking to anyone but her fellow British top model Agyness Deyn and Harvey Weinstein (who arrived with arm candy Georgina Chapman), Radar managed to get a word in to ask her how regular girls might look in a collection inspired by a size zero wardrobe. "I don't know," she responded in a chirpy cockney accent. "These are just the things I like to wear." Well-played, Katie.

Among the fashion elite milling about were Barney's CEO and Creative Director, Howard Socol and Simon Doonan (respectively), Teen Vogue EIC Amy Astley, House of Holland designer Henry Holland, Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi, and street sweeper Naomi Campbell, who arrived at the last minute in true diva fashion—in patent leather gladiator boots and a pound of taffeta. Though Moss was at this point already on her way out, the two models stopped for a brief photo-op and then made a point to leave in separate elevators.

Also present was CariDee English , the recent winner of America's Next Top Model, who was standing in the crowd of people waiting to meet Moss. "There are so many people, and I don't want to bug her," she said. "But she is like, my icon!" Here's hoping the message doesn't get back to Tyra Banks.
