Copping A Phil

SPOT THE 69-YEAR-OLD Donahue and Thomas, Allison (inset)
• That Phil Donahue is one smart guy. At a party to celebrate the paperback publication of Arianna Huffington's book On Becoming Fearless Friday night, the former talk show host managed to flatter his wife of 27 years by feeling up a much younger woman.

Inescapable freelance writer Julia Allison, 25, was chatting with friends when she felt a hand caressing her lower back. When she turned around in surprise, there was Donahue, who rushed to explain that he'd mistaken her for his 69-year-old spouse, Marlo Thomas. Though an aspiring television personality herself, Allison was apparently not fazed by her run in with a TV legend; as Donahue walked away, she asked, "Who was that guy?"

• For at least one Star magazine staffer caught in last week's purge, the pain of joblessness is balanced out by the joy of not having to work at a failing tabloid anymore. "As many of you know, I am happily no longer with American Media," wrote the newly unemployed publicist in an e-mail to contacts. "Though trying to publicize eight Angelina covers in a row was fun and everything, I'm very relieved to pursue a career I am excited about." You know, we bet Joe Dolce feels much the same way.

Moby is many things to many people: musician, restaurateur, toxic bachelor, occasional Luddite, and orgy organizer. He's also, apparently, a photographer. His photos will be among those auctioned next Tuesday at Milk Studios to benefit VH1's Save The Music Foundation. Michael Stipe, Terry Richardson, and Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have also provided photos for the event, which will be hosted by Spin and DKNY Jeans. And if there's an orgy afterward, you'll know whom to thank.
