Congdon Debates Self, Wins

TAKING DEBATE Congdon
Poor Amanda Congdon. The bodacious videoblogger and ABC News contributor just can't seem to understand why she should be embarrassed about playing journalist while taking money from companies like DuPont to shill for their products.

Congdon fired back at her critics yesterday with a riposte on her personal blog, following a truly bizarre video segment posted last week. "I never said I wanted to break 'all' the rules," she writes, responding to a broadside in the San Francisco Chronicle." "I believe we should challenge old paradigms, reconsider old ways of doing things."

The video (which she had sworn would be her last word on DuPont) features Congdon debating journalistic ethics with a TV reporter alter ego named Erin Barrows, also played by Congdon. (Think German Expressionism meets Max Headroom.) (Spoiler alert: Congdon wins!)

"I'm not into the whole 'Bye, personality, see you when I get home from work,'" she says. "That way of processing life, the whole 'Leave your personality out of it,' doesn't make sense."

And while this line of argument may have left Barrows speechless, we have to wonder: Does Congdon really consider parroting corporate talking points a vital form of personal expression?

The best part of the video is when she calls DuPont "a company that saves lives." Think she billed for that one, or was it a freebie?
