Clinton Does Food Bank For New York

FALLON FINGERED Clinton rips jangly Jimmy

Bill Clinton spun comedy gold from former SNL'er Jimmy Fallon's musical buffoonery at the Can-Do Awards Dinner for Food Bank for New York City at the Chelsea Piers this week.

For a wildly eclectic crowed including U2's The Edge, David Bowie and Iman, Kate Bosworth, Helena Christensen, Josh Hartnett and perennial pass-out party crasher Priyantha Silva, Fallon grabbed his guitar and sang a wacky political tune with the lyrics:

Let's have a car wash for peace
There's trouble in the Middle East
There'll be no more war,
Or dirty cars
Car wash for peace

Clinton, up next, thanked honoree The Edge "for being my true friend for many years—when it was easy, and when it wasn't!" Afterward, he lit into Fallon: "I'd like to congratulate all the other honorees," Clinton said, "except Jimmy Fallon.... I worked so hard for eight long years for peace in the Middle East, and if you hadn't withheld that song from me, we'd have had it!"

Of course, no party's complete without a Priyantha Silva sighting. The party crasher was situated right next to the chocolate fountain and has been sighted recently at the Science, Industry, and Business Library (SIBL) on 34th and Madison planning his evening activities on the free computers and looking up Red Wagon Films (one of the places he says he works for). Denis Leary introduced the evening's real surprise guest, Elvis Costello, who closed the shindig with some Dylan and U2 tunes.
