< BACK TO Fresh Intelligence Rudy OK with Pro-Gay Marriage Tag![]() SWINGS BOTH WAYS Giuliani Time's current cover story features a chart on the five major Republican presidential candidates (Giuliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson and Newt Gingrich) identifying their weaknesses on a host of family-values issues. According to the chart, Giuliani is the only one of the five who does not oppose gay marriage. The problem is Giuliani has said repeatedly that he does oppose gay marriage. He does, however, support gay civil unions, a nuanced position that strikes many hard-line social conservatives as an unacceptable fudge. [Chart scan after the jump] ![]() One might think, given Giuliani's perceived vulnerability in the primaries on social issues, his campaign would be anxious to set the record straight. But repeated calls to a spokeswoman on Friday and over the weekend produced no response. Meanwhile, a Time source says the magazine has not heard from anyone in the Giuliani camp about the story (although a correction is planned for next week's issue, according to a spokeswoman). Could it be that Giuliani, riding high in the latest polls, is wary of doing anything that might call attention to his potential weakness as a candidate? This is just one of MANY, MANY skeletons that have been locked away by Rudy. It's funny though that the one candidate in the race who has only had one wife is the Mormon. Speaking of that Mormon... Rudy's gonna have to pick up the pace to catch the Romney fundraising machine. Posted by: MyManMitt on March 21, 2007 10:51 AM Advertisement |
