Yesterday, we speculated that Time's Photoshopped Ronald Reagan cover might not sit well with the conservatives who regard him as a deity. But at least one of them—small-government agitator Grover Norquist—didn't mind it.

"I actually talked to Michael Reagan today," says Norquist, who's the president of Americans for Tax Reform. "He was a little bit perturbed at seeing his dad with the tear because it was phony.

"But my argument runs different. I think what they've done is the equivalent of showing the Statue of Liberty with a tear. It means Reagan is so iconic within the Republican Party, so iconic within the conservative movement, that you're sort of saying 'Mr. Republican' or 'Mr. Conservative.' No one else's picture would work. That's an incredible tribute."
