Domino Jumps on Greenwagon

CURTAIN CALL Model Shalom Harlow, Domino EIC Deborah Needleman, and serious actor Ed Norton

If we were the environment, we'd be a little concerned. Anything this trendy can't stay hot for much longer.

On the heels of such green milestones as An Inconvenient Truth's Oscar and John Edwards's carbon-neutral pledge, Domino had its Green Issue party last night, and drew a surprisingly notable crowd for a magazine about housewares. Despite the springtime-in-Svalbard weather, actor Edward Norton, New Yorker scribe Malcolm Gladwell, models Shalom Harlow and Lauren Bush, and socialite/interior designer Celerie Kemble all made it out to Industria Superstudios in the West Village. (Slate editor Jacob Weisberg did, too, but he doesn't count—he's married to Domino editor Deborah Needleman.)

Inside the party, you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting something eco-friendly. Guests were invited to shop at a "Green Market" filled with organic toilet paper and the like, and gift bags made of organic hemp awaited them upon departure. Food (free-range chicken and locally-grown porcini mushrooms!) was served on recycled wooden trays. Even the clothes were green: Needleman and her staff wore "sustainable" dresses fashioned out of organic linen and recycled polyester.

All the hippie-dippy patchouli burning wasn't for naught, though. Sales from the Green Market totaled $15,000, all of which was donated to the Maasai Wilderness Conversation Trust in Kenya. No word on how much Domino spent on the actual party.
