Berry Makes the Most of Suicide

STILL NOT DEAD Berry
In today's The Scoop, Halle Berry regurgitates a near-suicide for the second time to promote a film. Jeannette Walls pulls Berry quotes from a forthcoming interview in Parade, in which the Oscar-winning actress admits to contemplating suicide in the wake of her divorce from baseball's David Justice—the same story Berry told five years ago in an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times.

When she was promoting Die Another Day, Berry said:

"The heartbreak of getting divorced was devastating to me. I was a woman who grew up with the fantasy that you find your prince, he takes care of you, and then there's instant happiness ... When he went away, my self worth was gone and I felt like nothing ... So, I sat in my car one night planning to die ... [But] I sat in that car thinking of my mother and knowing that I'd break her heart if I killed myself. Suicide is such a cowardly act. So, I opened the car door, went back in the house, and decided to deal with my pain."

Here's what Walls quotes Halle as saying today:

"I was sitting in my car, and I knew the gas was coming, when I had an image of my mother finding me ... She sacrificed so much for her children, and to end my life would be an incredibly selfish thing to do. It was all about a relationship ... I promised myself I would never be a coward again."

Halle is, without question, brave. Especially when she has a movie coming out.

She also told this story in Vogue in the early 2000's and to Ebony in 1997. In those interviews, she also mentioned that she brought her dogs into the car with her during this suicide attempt. Now the story remains the same minus the dogs. Here's a URL to the Ebony article http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1077/is_n5_v52/ai_19201532
