SPLITSVILLE? Murdoch and Clinton

As she officially enters the '08 presidential race, is Hillary Clinton's most important paramour abandoning her? How else to explain why two Rupert Murdoch-owned properties, Fox News and the New York Post, went wide with a scurrilous non-story about Clinton's leading competitor, Barack Obama, attending a madrassa as a child? The report is a double Democratic smear—on the one hand raising the absurd specter of Islamic extremism in relation to Obama's early schooling, and on the other attributing the rumor to scandal-hunting "Democrats 'connected' to Hillary Rodham Clinton."

As the Huffington Post's Eat the Press blog points out, the story has been mentioned twice on Fox News and once in the Post, allowing both conservative-slanted organs to simultaneously repeat the claim about Obama and tag Clinton as its source.
