HOUSE OF REGAN? Sunset Tower
Is Judith Regan in hiding? The freshly canned publisher has been "holed up" with her kids since Friday at the Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood, according to a source. When Radar called the hotel's switchboard and asked for Regan's room, the call was duly transferred. A woman who identified herself as Mary answered, but insisted, "You've got the wrong room." Upon a second call to the switchboard, the operator claimed—whoops—Regan actually checked out this morning. (And if she didn't, it's a fair bet the operator received a profanity-laced lesson in call-screening.)

Incidentally, according to the Sunset Tower's website, Truman Capote once described the hotel as the site "where every scandal that ever happened happened."

Meanwhile, reports that Regan brought on her own firing by making anti-Semitic slurs in a conference call raise a new question: Will Sirius Satellite Radio follow HarperCollins's lead and give her the boot, too? Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin, who is Jewish, could face heavy pressure to distance his company from Regan should, say, the Anti-Defamation League choose to get involved. And guess what? "We are looking into the matter," says an ADL spokesperson.

A Sirius spokesman has yet to respond to queries, but a source who knows Karmazin well doubts he will kill her show unless the accusations against Regan get considerably worse. "Mel has a long history of taking people who are getting the crap beaten out of them and picking them back up," says the source. "His first reaction would be to let the person who's in deep trouble have some time to dig themselves out."
