Gawker: Do As I Say, Not As I Douche

TO DON'T Gawker recommends
It must be fairly difficult for Gawker Media employees to practice what they preach when they're contractually obligated to preach 12 times a day. How else to explain the apparent disconnect between Gawker deciding to throw its Christmas party at The Belgrade, the downstairs lounge of Bar Martignetti, which the New York gossip site nominated to its Douchebag Restaurants Hall of Fame two weeks ago?

According to a Gawker tipster, Bar Martignetti seems like a bar more likely to be found in the Meatpacking District (a district that merited a series of "hit pieces" from the site) than in its marginally less annoying location of NoLita (That's North of Little Italy, for our Red State readers).

The bad advance buzz must have come after managing editor Lockhart Steele picked the joint for the company's cocktails and hors d'oeuvres holiday shindig to be held on Thursday—the invite for which included a plug for the bar from frequent Gawker punching bag UrbanDaddy.

What prompted the change of heart? Reached for comment via IM, newish Gawker editor Emily Gould had only this to say: "We can't be expected to remember all the shit we hate on."

Drinks are at 7 p.m.

Full disclosures:
Radar's holiday party is at a certain "hipsteraunt" [sic] where we're assured the liquor license is perfectly valid.
• Neel Shah has his own section on Gawker.
• The word douche is on loan to Radar from Gawker Media.

F Y I, altho well meaning real estate agents and late to come hipsters have tried to convert Nolita to mean north of little italy, it does not --- they are wrong.

Nolita is in Little Italy, it is the traditional residential area of Little Italy and as a member of the Nolita Neighborhood Association, it is obvious to us that Nolita can only mean --- Northern Little Italy.

enjoy your holiday party, but please keep it down on the way out of our 'hood...
