The Two Mr. Beams and the Case of the Missing $1 million

BLOGFATHER Beam, père
• Sons and bloggers: The New York Observer's Michael Calderone looks at the Oedipal struggle between IvyGate blogger Chris Beam and his father, Boston Globe columnist Alex Beam.
• And the award for topical flakery goes to...: A newspaper's Page Six plugs a Jewish singles' event (featuring sex therapist Dr. Judy Kuriansky, wannabe Sex and the City character-turned-Caitlin Flanagan manqué Amy Sohn, and onetime Michael Jackson BFF, Rabbi Shmuely Boteach: book your tickets now!) and gets in this demi-joke from promoter Scott Pellegrino: "Even Michael Richards could get laid after attending this thing." Zing! And yet another opportunity to plug Even Hitler Had a Girlfriend missed.
• The dream team: It's practically December, which means another hiring for Condé Nast's soon-to-launch business magazine, Portfolio. A newspaper's Keith Kelly reports that Wall Street Journal staffer Laurie P. Cohen will be joining ... everyone, basically.
• Pay for no play: Newsweek is reporting that ABC had to pay News Corp. $1 million when it decided not to conduct an interview with O.J. Simpson about his never-to-be-released If I Did It. What's a little blood money between friends, right?
