• Assassination: Lebanese cabinet minister Pierre Gemayel was killed near Beirut with an automatic weapon.

• Crash: Three motorcycles in a Bush presidential motorcade crashed in Hawaii. One officer is listed in critical condition, another serious, and the third had minor injuries.
