Horny Congressman's Hometown Squeeze

Up until Mark Foley's lawyer confirmed his sexual orientation at a press conference Tuesday, most stories about the boy-crazy ex-congressman described him as "single." But that wasn't exactly true. In fact, Foley has been involved for over 19 years with the same man, a well-known Palm Beach dermatologist and socialite named Layne Nisenbaum.

That's right: In addition to abusing his authority, torpedoing his party, and violating his constituents' trust, Foley made a fool out of his boyfriend.

A receptionist at Nisenbaum's office said he was not taking calls from the media, and referred Radar to Foley's attorney, David Roth, who did not reply to a message. But according to Bob Norman, a columnist for the New Times of Broward-Palm Beach, "It's common knowledge in Palm Beach political circles that Foley and Layne Nisenbaum have been long-term partners." Norman, who mentioned Nisenbaum on his blog several days ago, learned of the relationship in 2003, when he wrote an article officially outing Foley, who, until yesterday's announcement, had repeatedly refused to publicly acknowledge his lifestyle. "Nisenbaum wouldn't comment on it, but the circumstantial evidence is overwhelming in terms of eyewitnesses seeing them at social gatherings over the course of years," he adds.

While their couplehood has been noted in a local gay paper, The Express, the closest it's come to being mentioned in the mainstream press was a caption in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, which referred to Nisenbaum as a "supporter" of Foley's in an election-night photo caption.

Nisenbaum's presence on the black-tie circuit, however, has made him a fixture of local media. In March 2003, he was featured in the Palm Beach Post, in an article titled "The Big 10: Palm Beach's Models of Male Perfection."

A profile in New Beauty, a magazine about cosmetic enhancement, reveals Nisenbaum's hobbies (tennis, sailing, and boating), his favorite vacation spots (Southampton, Nantucket, and Martha's Vineyard) and a must-have possession ("my optimistic outlook"), which he's probably running a bit low on these days.
