Ex-Vibe Editor Ditches Source Duo

THAT'S A RAP Valdes
It seems the former owners of The Source haven't lost their knack for employee retention. Former Vibe editor in chief Mimi Valdes, whom the pair had hired to launch a new gossip title called Hip-Hop Weekly, has already walked off the job, according to a report on SOHH.com, a music website. Valdes did not immediately respond to a message from Radar, but a source close to her confirms she has quit, adding that she found her new bosses, Dave Mays and Ray "Benzino" Scott, difficult to work for. No surprise there: Mays and Scott had a long record of being combative and running The Source for personal gain before being pushed out earlier this year. Hip-Hop Weekly is still scheduled to launch Oct. 16, with contributions from New York radio yappers Wendy Williams, Star, and Buc Wild.
